6 best self-hosted tools I have in my network stack

My networking setup is incomplete without these neat utilities I’ve been experimenting with self-hosted services for a long time, and I have several quality-of-life-enhancing apps running on my home lab. In the past, I’ve gone over my self-hosted gaming, coding, and automation apps. This time, I wanted to shed some light on my networking tools. While it’s more of a passive network analysis than a dedicated IDS/IPS, ntopng also has some active monitoring facilities up its sleeve. The vulnerability scan feature, for instance, can check my server ports for CVE.I can also create custom alerts to receive notifications about every major event on my home network, be it a new device connecting to my LAN or a server exchanging one too many packets with an unrecognized IP address.I regularly add new devices to my home lab, partly because I work as a hardware reviewer and also due to my terrible habit of purchasing new server equipment on a whim. A self-hosted NetBox instance can map all my devices and I use it to model my local network setup.

Produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and released by United Artists on November 27, 1976, Network was a commercial success, earning $23.7 million on a $3.8 million production budget. In 2000, Network was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". In 2002, it was inducted into the Producers Guild of America Hall of Fame as a film that has "set an enduring standard for American entertainment".Christensen's fanatical devotion to her job and emotional emptiness ultimately drive Schumacher away, warning her that she will self-destruct if she continues on her current path. Audiences find Beale's new sermons on the dehumanization of society depressing and ratings start to slip, yet Jensen refuses to fire him. To boost the network's ratings, Christensen, Hackett and the other executives decide to hire the ELA to assassinate Beale on the air.In addition, Lee Richardson provides various moments of narration advancing additional plot details. Network came only two years after the first on-screen suicide in television history, of television news reporter Christine Chubbuck in Sarasota, Florida. The anchorwoman was suffering from depression and loneliness, was often emotionally distant from her co-workers, and shot herself on camera as stunned viewers watched on July 15, 1974.However, Dave Itzkoff's book (Mad as Hell: The Making of Network and the Fateful Vision of the Angriest Man in Movies) allows that whether Chayefsky was inspired by the Chubbuck case remains unclear, that Chayefsky's screenplay notes on the week of the live death have nothing about the incident in them, and grants it is an eerie parallel.

r/node on Reddit: How does network I/O actually work in Nodejs ?

So I recently learned that V8 main thread is synchronous/blocking so it runs one task at a time. For asynchronous/non-blocking nodejs uses libuv… We can increase thread pool size but if we go over our physical machine core limit it takes time and has a synchronous effect to it. But when tasks are type of network I/O it doesn’t run on libuv. Instead they delegate to kernel. Also if we are running network I/O operations on kernel means we are running it on physically machine so wouldn’t we run into same problem as I stated in case of increasing thread pool size ?Posted by u/[Deleted Account] - 9 votes and 3 commentsFor asynchronous/non-blocking nodejs uses libuv. Which has a thread pool and this thread pool contains 4 threads by default. So every task gets one if there are 4 tasks and executed separately on their own thread.

Its foresight on reality TV and societal decay is often highlighted. Peter Finch and Faye Dunaway deliver standout performances, though some find the film uneven with slow pacing, preachy dialogue, and an exaggerated plot. One of the reasons 'Network' was so well received by both film critics and movie-going audiences was because it possessed a certain quality that most films unfortunately lack -- intricate and involving characters in realistic situations. 'Network' definitely makes my list of the top 10 films of the 70s, and it's an absolute shame it didn't pick up the well-deserved 'Best Picture' Oscar at the Academy Awards ceremony in 1976.The film follows a low-rated television network trying to keep it's head above water. The network, UBS, has decided to fire an aging veteran news anchor, Howard Beale (Peter Finch), in an act of desperation to boost ratings. Beale is given a two-week notice, and instead of going out with his tale between his legs, Beale announces on live television he was fired and is going to kill himself.

Ziply also includes whole-home Wi-Fi with up to three extenders, which is a nice deal for anyone interested in trying out the benefits of a mesh network. Customers also have an option to use their own router or lease one for $15 per month. CNET has found it helpful to lean on the annual ISP surveys from the American Customer Satisfaction Index and J.D. Power, but many resources are available. Learning about constant network interruptions, a negligent help desk or frequent billing mistakes can be valuable info for choosing (or avoiding) certain providers.Fiber internet is the gold standard if you can get it. It's often called "future-proof," meaning that it offers some of the fastest plans available and features symmetrical download and upload speeds. It's more reliable than cable and is less prone to outages or network congestion.Fixed wireless networks tend to be slower and more laggy than wired connections. You're also subject to network congestion and speed throttling during peak usage hours. The promise of 5G home internet from companies like Starry, T-Mobile and Verizon is speeds that match up favorably to cable connections.Typically, satellite internet features slower speeds -- though Starlink has certainly disrupted expectations for satellite internet and raised the bar way up. Note that, like 5G home internet and other fixed wireless offerings, satellite internet is subject to network congestion and speed throttling.

To find a brief definition of the networking term you are looking for user your browser’s “Find” feature then follow links to a fuller explanation. AI data centers are designed, built, and optimized to meet the demands of workloads created by the rise of artificial intelligence. AI data centers go beyond the capabilities of traditional data centers and feature high-density compute racks packed with accelerators like GPUs and TPUs. Given this, AI data centers require significantly advanced power, liquid cooling, and high-bandwidth, low-latency networking infrastructure to handle data workloads and large language models (LLMs) for AI model training and inference. In short, AI data centers built for scale, efficiency, and the demands AI applications. AI networking refers to the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to network management and optimization.By analyzing vast amounts of data generated by network devices, applications, and users, AIOps leverages AI/ML algorithms to identify and resolve issues, automate routine tasks, enhance network visibility, and improve overall operational efficiency. An AI server is a specialized computing system designed to handle demanding tasks required for artificial intelligence (AI) applications. AI servers are optimized with advanced hardware and software components to process large amounts of data and execute complex algorithms. An AI server relies on high-performance CPUs and GPUs, such as those from Nvidia, to handle complex computations, large memory capacity to store and process large datasets, fast storage solutions like SSDs for quick data access, and advanced networking capabilities to move data for AI workloads.

Analysis Moore's Law has run out of gas and AI workloads need massive amounts of parallel compute and high bandwidth memory right next to it – both of which have become terribly expensive. If it weren't for this situation, the beancounters of the world might be complaining about the cost of networking in the datacenter. But luckily – we suppose – with these modern systems, some of the costs of networking are masked as compute. Think of the scale-up networks such as the NVLink ports and NVLink Switch fabrics that are part and parcel of an GPU accelerated server node – or, these days, a rackscale system like the DGX NVL72 and its OEM and ODM clones. These memory sharing networks are vital for ever-embiggening AI training and inference workloads. As their parameter counts and token throughput requirements both rise, they need ever-larger memory domains to do their work.Nvidia does not really sell the SXM socket versions of its GPU accelerators without them being embedded on HGX or now MGX system boards that interconnect the GPU memories. Another masked networking cost that is coming to AI systems is that of the die-to-die and chip-to-chip interconnects used within the GPU sockets to interlink reticle-sized GPU chiplets (in the case of Nvidia) or smaller compute elements (in the case of AMD).
